Histera
As a Junior Unity Developer for Histera, I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks that have significantly contributed to my growth in game development. My primary responsibilities focused on bug fixing, which allowed me to to hone my problem solving skills and attention to detail.
Beyond bug fixing, I contributed to several larger features that enhanced gameplay and user experience, including:
Spawning system
Developed an easy-to-tweak spawning system that allows designers to customize spawn locations, ensuring that players do not spawn in close proximity to their enemies. This enhances gameplay balance and player experience by reducing immediate conflict upon respawn.
Glitch Pickups
Created unique power-ups that only spawned in the glitch and added excitement and strategy to gameplay. There are seven Glitch Pickups:
- Haste
- Infinite ammo
- Power armor
- Regeneration
- Extra health
- Vampire
- Double damage
Party
Implemented the party feature, allowing players to form teams. This system is integrated with Steam friends, ensuring that all players within the party can see one another and that their information is accurately updated. For instance, if a player modifies their character's skin, this change will be reflected to other members of the party.
Settings input rebind
Implemented the input rebind functionality. When a player attempts to rebind an action to a different button, a verification process is initiated to determine if the button is currently assigned to another action. If the button is in use, the player will be notified and prompted to confirm whether they still wish to proceed with the rebind.
Shop & Wardrobe 3D preview
Created a user-friendly and customizable 3D preview system for player and weapon skins in the shop and wardrobe, enhancing the shopping experience.
Explicit language filter
Implemented an explicit language filter to ensure that inappropriate words do not appear in the chat when the player has the setting enabled. To further enhance user customization, a custom word filter has also been introduced. This feature allows players to specify words they wish to avoid seeing in chat. If the explicit language filter is activated, any words added to the custom filter will also be censored.
Throughout my tenure, I have gained invaluable experience in writing clean, maintainable code and actively participating in code reviews, which have refined my programming practices. My time working on Histera has not only strengthened my technical abilities but also deepened my passion for game development as I continue to grow in a collaborative environment.
